A delegation of Buddhist monks from China’s Lingguangxi Temple in Beijing, led by Venerable Van Shichang Zang, met with senior members of Myanmar’s State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee (SSMNC) in Yangon on 28 September.
The meeting took place at the Maha Vijara Mingala Dhamma Thabin on Kaba Aye Hill. The Chinese monks paid homage to a group of eight venerable Sayadaws, including the Chairman of the SSMNC.
During the ceremony, the Chairman Sayadaw highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between Myanmar and China. He noted that both countries share deep traditional ties and continue to develop cooperation in social, economic, cultural, and religious fields. He emphasized that although Myanmar is a Theravada Buddhist country, it works harmoniously with Mahayana traditions.
The Chairman Sayadaw also spoke about the importance of extinguishing defilements through the Noble Path and encouraged collective efforts to spread Buddhist teachings worldwide.
Following the meeting, the two sides exchanged Dhamma gifts, and the Chinese delegation made a cash donation to the SSMNC.
Later that afternoon, the Chinese delegation met with Myanmar’s Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, U Aye Tun, at the ministry’s office in Yangon. They discussed religious affairs and bilateral cooperation for the propagation of Buddha Sasana.
The visiting monks also paid respects at the Shwedagon Pagoda, where they made offerings and signed the pagoda’s visitor book. They later met with the Chairman of the Yangon Region Sangha Nayaka Committee to discuss further religious matters.
