Myanmar Junta Forces Retake Yaykangon Camp and Burn Lay Kay Kaw Town

Myanmar military forces have recaptured the Yaykangon hill camp near Lay Kay Kaw town, close to the Thai-Myanmar border. The camp had been under the control of the Karen National Union (KNU). Following the recapture, reports indicate that junta troops set fire to a section of the town.

The offensive, a joint operation with the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF), began on September 22nd. During the assault on the morning of September 29th, resistance fighters reported the use of five kamikaze drones, including large fixed-wing models and smaller FPV units.

The conflict has escalated significantly. On the afternoon of the 29th, two schools in nearby villages were struck by kamikaze drones, damaging the buildings. The previous day, the military conducted four airstrikes on Lay Kay Kaw and bombed a restaurant. A monastery was also bombed on September 27th.

The ongoing violence has forced more than 3,000 civilians from at least six villages to flee their homes, with many seeking refuge along the border. The area remains tense as fighting continues.
