Qatari Delegation Meets Myanmar Union Minister

Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin met with a Qatari delegation led by Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs of Qatar, yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted Myanmar’s strategic location and abundant energy resources, presenting significant investment opportunities. He extended an invitation to Qatari companies to invest in onshore and offshore oil and gas exploration, drilling, production, and pipeline development in the country’s promising and untapped areas.

The Minister also pointed to Qatar’s global leadership in LNG production and export, expressing Myanmar’s desire to cooperate in establishing itself as an LNG trading hub. This would facilitate the supply and distribution of natural gas to China and other Southeast Asian nations.

Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah provided an overview of Qatar’s ongoing domestic and international projects. The two sides then engaged in open and constructive discussions on potential areas for bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
