Supermoon Glows Over Myanmar on October 7th

Myanmar is set to witness its first supermoon of 2025 on the night of October 7th, according to the Myanmar Astronomy and Science Enthusiasts Society.

A supermoon, technically known as a perigee moon, happens when the full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit. During this event, the moon will be approximately 224,559 miles away, making it appear significantly larger and brighter—about 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than an average full moon.

This supermoon is the first in a series of three consecutive supermoons expected later in the year, with others following in November and December.

Coinciding with the lights of the Thadingyut festival, the night sky is expected to be especially luminous, offering optimal viewing conditions from Myanmar. Stargazers were also treated to a bright Saturn near the moon on October 6th.
