The Yegyaw Thadingyut Funfair, one of Yangon’s most popular festivals, is in full swing and will run until 7 October. The event has been bustling with huge crowds since it opened.
Held on Yegyaw and Bogyoke streets in Pazundaung Township, the festival is a major attraction during the Thadingyut holidays.
Visitors report that the fair has been packed every day, with streets becoming especially busy after 6 pm. The crowds have been so dense that people have had to push their way through. The event is drawing not only locals from Pazundaung but also residents from across Yangon who are coming to enjoy the festivities.
Attendees can explore a wide variety of food stalls, shops selling consumer goods, toys, clothes, and cosmetics. The fair also offers fun games and entertainment for the young, including merry-go-rounds, ferris wheels, and pirate boats.
After a break during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yegyaw Festival made a return in 2024. This year’s event began on 1 October in the pre-Thadingyut period.
