Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, addressed the nation yesterday during a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw marking the 61st Anniversary of the Myanmar Police Force Day.
In his speech, the Senior General outlined the critical role of the police force, emphasizing that officers must not only demonstrate professional skill but also uphold the highest standards of integrity, sound judgment, and courteous conduct in their service to the community.
He stated that the police force is currently prioritizing the Three Main National Causes and the four objectives of the National Defence and Security Council, while also working closely with the Tatmadaw and the public to eradicate terrorism. Its core duties include maintaining internal security, upholding the rule of law, and combating the dangers of narcotic drugs.
With multiparty democratic general elections approaching on 28 December, the Senior General highlighted the importance of ensuring public security for the successful holding of free and fair elections, calling for collective efforts from all citizens.
The address also covered the nation’s ongoing fight against transnational crime. Between January and August of this year, over 5,115 drug-related offenders were arrested, with seized items valued at over K977 billion. Myanmar has now officially prohibited 43 chemical substances, up from 39, and continues to cooperate with international organizations on narcotics control.
Other key achievements were noted, including the conviction of money laundering offenders, resulting in K4.605 billion being confiscated for the state, and actions against 162 cases of illegal online gambling and financial fraud.
The Senior General presented honorary medals to several police members in recognition of their gallantry and service. The ceremony was attended by Union ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers, diplomats, and representatives from international organizations.
