Devotees across Mandalay Region celebrated the Full Moon Day of Thadingyut, also known as Abhidhamma Day, by performing acts of merit and devotion. The day was marked by large crowds visiting the region’s most revered pagodas.
In the early morning, many offered flowers, water, and oil lamps to the Maha Muni Buddha Image, adhering to the health guidelines set by the Pagoda Trustees Board. Pilgrims also flocked to other landmark sites including Shwekyeemyin Pagoda, Kyauktawgyi Pagoda, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Kyauksein (Jade) Pagoda, Candamuni Pagoda, and Aungdawmu Pagoda to pray for the well-being of all beings and to recite sermons.
In keeping with Buddhist tradition, people offered alms and recited sacred texts such as the Paritta, Pathana Pali verses, and the Dhammacakka Sutta. The festival also included paying respects to parents and elders, with prayers for peace, health, and prosperity.
As evening fell, the celebration continued with the lighting of oil lamps dedicated to the Buddha. Homes and public spaces were beautifully illuminated with devotional paper lanterns and candles, creating a vibrant and spiritual atmosphere across the region.
