Red Cross Red Crescent Forum and Meeting Hosts MRCS Delegation in Malaysia

A delegation from the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) recently participated in major regional humanitarian events held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The delegation, led by MRCS Vice-President Dr. Daw Tin Tin Lay and Executive Professor Dr. Tin Maung Hlaing, first attended the Southeast Asia Red Cross Red Crescent Humanitarian Forum on September 22nd. This was followed by the 22nd RCRC Southeast Asia Leaders Meeting on September 23rd and 24th.

The meeting was opened with speeches from Mr. Alexander Matheou, the Asia-Pacific Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Mr. Regis Savioz, Asia-Pacific Regional Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the National Chairperson of the Malaysian Red Crescent.

During the proceedings, delegates from across Southeast Asia discussed their respective national activities. Vice-President Dr. Daw Tin Tin Lay detailed the MRCS’s ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in areas devastated by the recent Mandalay earthquake. She also took part in broader discussions with representatives from other societies in the region.

On the final day, Dr. Daw Tin Tin Lay presided over the morning session of the meeting. The event concluded with the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Statement.

It was also announced that Myanmar is set to host the next 23rd RCRC Southeast Asia Leaders Meeting in 2026.
